Forming Sculptured Glass Australia

Forming

P1110512Forming glass is simply using the glass weight, kiln heat and gravity to form glass into or over a mould.
  • The workshop will encourage students to explore and discuss the concept/design stage in the relationship to glass, mould and heat, finding easy ways to translate each individual design into workable formed glass project without comprising the original design.
  • The workshop will cover functional (bowls and platters) and non-functional (sculptures-free standing/fixed) forms.
  • Students will experience how glass types, thickness, tint, and colour effects forming glass and exposure to extensive mould making techniques with integration of texture whilst forming glass all in the one process.
  • The workshop will be devoted to understanding the uniqueness of each individual designed kiln and how it affects the forming process, involving the sensitive firing schedules.
  • Fixing (securing) techniques of completed sculptured works will be covered in the workshop.
  • The aim of the workshop is to expose the students to a large number of forming techniques that will ultimately help in the future direction of the work.
